Commemoration of the Lord’s Supper

Invitation to the Lord’s Supper

Pastor: Members, Family and Friends of First Baptist Church, the Lord Jesus as their Savior, and who desire to live in him alone for their salvation.

People: All who are truly sorry for their sins, who sincerely believe in the Lord Jesus as the Savior, and who desire to live in obedience to him as Lord, are now invited to come with gladness to the table of the Lord.

Come, the table is set. Let us eat the food that God has prepared for us. Let us drink the wine of the new covenant. Come, the table is set. All are welcome. Come family and friends.

Communion Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for your Son, Jesus Christ, for his willing obedience and suffering during his life on earth, and especially for his giving up of his body and blood on the cross. Give us assurance that our sins are pardoned through his blood. Let your perfect love drive out fear; make us perfect in your love. Fill our minds with your peace and turn our eyes to heaven, where Christ is at your right-hand interceding for us.

*Communion Hymn Communion Hymn #10 page 4 "Let us Break Bread Together” verses 1 and 2

Pastor: We give thanks to God the Father that our Savior, Jesus Christ, before he suffered gave us this memorial of his sacrifice, until he comes again.

At his last supper, the Lord Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me”.

Take, eat! Remember and believe that the body of Christ is the bread of heaven for us.

In the same way, he took the cup after supper and said, “This is the new covenant in my blood; do this is remembrance of me”. For whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

Take, drink! Remember and believe that the blood of Christ is the cup of salvation.

*Hymn of Fellowship “Savior, Again to Thy Dear Name”

Benediction

CDC RECOMMENDS USE OF CLOTH FACE COVERINGS AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC

WASHINGTON —

face mask

Dear  Members, Officers, Staff, Friends, Pastor and Members of Fountain of Living Water Congregation:

It is our hope and prayer that you and the family are following the instructions concerning the current Covid-19 virus pandemic. One of the major recommendations from the Center for Disease Control is not to have gatherings of ten or more persons to prevent the spread of the virus to other persons. We would like to do our part by canceling Sunday worship services at 11:00 am and prevent social contact at scheduled board and or committee meetings at First Baptist Church.

There seems to be and rightly so, a great amount of fear in the hearts and minds of many people today in the light of COVID-19 virus. We are reminded as Christians, we need to replace our fear with faith and pray for God’s care and protection over our families, healthcare workers, vulnerable populations (elderly and those with preexisting conditions and medical professionals, and all God’s people who have and will be affected by the virus in the coming days ahead.

The apostle Paul encourages us with the words “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4: 6-7).

We should take everything — no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to us — to the Lord in prayer “with thanksgiving”. Even when our situation may seem completely out of the ordinary, like the Covid virus, God is still in control. When we bring our needs and burdens to the Lord with thanksgiving in our hearts, He promises to give us His peace. Peace when everything around us tells us we should be frazzled or depressed or fearful or worried. Peace that comes from knowing, no matter what, the Lord is ultimately in control.

Please feel free to visit our web site at firstbaptistsomerville.org for updates regarding First Baptist Church. If you would like to send your tithes and offering by mail please do so at First Baptist Church, Attention: David Brown, 132 West High Street, Somerville, New Jersey 08876.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor: Loreno Flemmings

Our church theme verse for 2020

"The  LORD is Our Helper"

“So we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.

What can man do to me?”

(Hebrews 13: 6)

The New Year 2020 has arrived, and along with it we all have new goals, high aspirations and fresh hopes for the coming year. This past year has been a challenging and difficult year for many people who suffer the loss of love ones, health challenges, and major decisions in life. While we don’t know what is coming in the New Year, we can find hope and confidence in God’s word, and maintain a positive outlook that things will be better than ever in this coming year. The Hebrew writer says “So we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13: 6), Let us come into this new year with the confidence that the Lord is our helper and he will help us through the difficult challenges we faced in 2020.

The Hebrew writer doesn’t say we won't have pain, disappointments, and we will never suffer or have sorrow. The psalmist lifted his eyes to the hills. The Jews knew the mountains around Jerusalem were stable and secure. That’s the reason the psalmist in Psalm 121: verses 1 and 2 lifted his eyes higher and said, "No, I don't get my help from the hills. I get my help from the heavens. God is my Helper." Whatever your need or task is today, your help will come from the Lord, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. A God high enough to be the sustainer and protector of his creation at the same time help us solved our problems.

With the Lord as our helper, mere man can do nothing to us or against us except that which God permits. You recalled the story of Daniel being thrown into the lion’s den by his adversaries. Daniel was completely aware of his situation and knew  that he could have died that night in the lion’s den, but Daniel believed his God, and trusted him at all times for all circumstances; and even though he might die, still, he was willing to trust God.  Daniel believed that God would keep his word to watch over him and protect him, and that God knew where Daniel was at all times. Just like Daniel, God is all-powerful, he knows every situation that everyone endures, and he knows exactly where everyone is and what is happening to them at all times.

In the face of God’s power, mere man begins to look very small in their devious actions and that is just the way God intends it to be. He wants to give us confidence that He is able for every need we have: large, small or whatever the size. None is too large, any too small for Him. Whatever difficulties and problems you will face in 2020, the fact remains that God will be our protector, sustainer and friend in and through them all.

A Blessed New Year!

Pastor Loreno R. Flemmings
